The End of a Season...

Cheerleading has come to a close for the year.  We were lucky enough to have our football team go to the playoffs and our girls' basketball team go to state this year.  Both were lots of fun, but it meant we had to put in a lot more work and plenty more hours of practice. All of it was worth it though. :) Towards the end of basketball season, Felicia hurt her knee and was unable to stunt.  We had to get creative to find new ways to stunt.  Jill was able to take Felicia's spot until the state games started, but then we had to find new stunts to do, as we only had one base.  Getting ready for state was a lot of work.  We had to plan the pep rally and a spirit breakfast for the girls. We lost the game, but we were honored to go to state.  The basketball banquet was a couple weeks ago.  It signified the end of basketball for the 2010-2011 season, which was sad, as we are losing four great girls.  We plan to have a sleepover before graduation to be a team one more time, and I can't wait. :)

Stuntin' Is a Habit... ;)

Our squad doesn't just do cheers. Cheering is the main part of what we do, but we also tumble. Cassie and I used to be in gymnastics, and we tumble during quarters and full time outs. The third part of what we do is stunting. As the starting players are introduced, either Molli or I are lifted into the air to do different things. I will explain a few.

The first is a prep. A prep is the simplest stunt and is the base for most other stunts. This is Molli doing a prep at a football game.

The next is an extension. The bases fully extend the arms, so the flier is much higher.

The next is the splits stunt. To do this stunt, you must be flexible. Usually the bases fully extend their arms. Here is a picture of me in the splits stunt at a basketball game.

The next stunt is called an Awesome. It is an extension with the flier's legs together.

This stunt is a Liberty with a Shoulder Sit. This is difficult as the main flier is on one leg.

The final stunt is a heel stretch. This is extremely hard, as it requires flexibility and balance.

There are many more stunts that we have learned, and we continue to find new things to try. Cheer requires lots of practices and is much harder than people think!

A Big Thank You :)

As basketball season is almost over, I would like to thank the student section for all they do.  They have really stepped it up this year.  They have themes for different nights like Blackouts, Whiteouts, Blueouts, Christmas, Camo, and Business night.  It is always more fun for me as a cheerleader when the crowd gets into it.  Almost every game, Travis Crotty leads a roller coaster during the third quarter of the boys' game that the whole student section does.  I hope the student section can keep it up, as we only have a few games left. I think they can do it. :)

We're Playin' Basketball! :)

Basketball season is finally here! My weeks are filled with practices and games. We have two new cheerleaders this year: Cassie Wells and my sister, Jill. We have been super stressed, as we didn't have much time to get ready for basketball this year, but we are having a ton of fun. Sickness has been traveling around our squad so especially last night, our squad has been a little smaller and quieter, but we are getting better. On Saturday, we are having a little girl's camp where we will teach the girls cheers and a dance. Molli Wienhold and I choreographed the dance and as a squad, we camp up with the cheers. We will have three games this week in addition to the camp and practice the other nights, so I am busy, but it's all worth it :)

Basketball!

We have our first basketball game tomorrow! I am so excited! Tonight at practice we are teaching all the cheers to the two new girls, Jill and Cassie. It will be a long practice but with a game in only one day, it is much needed. I can't wait for the season to start. It should be lots of fun! :)

Welcome to my blog! :)

Boom, we got that spirit! So give it up, let's hear it! :) Cheerleading is one of my favorite hobbies. I cheer for both football and basketball games. Our job is to pump up the crowd and the players during the games. We have lots of fun cheers that get the crowd involved. We also stunt. Molli Wienhold and I are the fliers. I used to be in gymnastics so I tumble after timeouts and after quarters. This year Cassie Wells will tumble with me. Football cheer is over, and we will start practice for basketball soon. I can't wait for the season to start. :)
